Old Habits Die Hard

While the full reviews are hopefully forthcoming, I thought I’d note that I’ve been listening to a couple of good new releases this last week or so.

Dashboard Confessional: The Shade of Poison Trees

The New Amsterdams: At the Foot of My Rival

Maybe it’s the whole back to school vibe this year brings, but going back to these bands from my early college days feels so much like home sometimes. I’ve been a Dashboard fan since the earlier days and this new album is a pretty good return to some of the more stripped down acoustic styles of Swiss Army Romance and The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most. And, while the Get Up Kids are long gone (sorry Sean), the New Amsterdams keep making good records that make mourning the death of their predecessor band a little easier to stomach these days.

Also coming soon, new Jimmy Eat World. I’ve got my ticket to see them on campus in a week. Man, feels like I’m 19 again. Ahh, nostalgia.
