The Year Ends

Yesterday we wrapped up the last bits of the regular school year for the INN. We went out to lunch as a staff, did a "Toast and Tokens" gift-giving event, packed up desks (I didn’t, but 66% of the staff did), and said our final goodbyes as a staff. It was quite an emotional day, filled with the excitement of what each of us will do next, sadness at the thought of our great group of interns and staff breaking apart, and anticipation and hope as we all begin to step back and see what God has been doing in us all year long.

I have to say that it was a great pleasure to work with our interns this year. Becca, TC, Karen, Kristi, and Mike all gave up an academic year to spend time serving students and learning about ministry, all without pay. It is sad to see them go, as we’ve developed very strong relationships as a staff. I hope they all know how grateful I am and the INN is for their commitment this year and their hard work serving students and each other.

This past week has also been very hard because we are losing a senior staff person. Lance will be leaving and going back to school. I will be filling his shoes next year, but without him there will be a very noticeable difference around the INN. I have looked up to him as a mentor and friend over my time as a student and now on staff. I have learned a lot from him and it will be very hard to see him go. He has made an incredible impact on our ministry, the culture of the INN, and the way we work with students.

With all this transition, there is a very strong sense of hope in my heart. Hope for a new year, with new people (5 new interns, 1 new senior staff, lots of new students). Hope for a next step in my development in this ministry role. Hope for fresh experiences where student meet God, experience community, and develop in their faith. Please continue to pray for the INN as we jump into summer quarter in a couple weeks and as we prepare for another year starting in September. Thanks to all out there who have support the INN, whether it has been through student leadership when you were at Western, financial support, or through continued prayer this year for me and the rest of the staff.

Blessings and thanks to all the staff for a wonderful year.
