Beyond the Gates of Splendor
We started Netflix this week and the first movie to arrive was "Beyond the Gates of Splendor." This is the documentary of 5 missionary families who went to Ecuador to work with one of the most violent tribes ever encountered. The 5 husbands were killed by members of the tribe and the wives tell their story and how they went back to the tribe after their husband’s deaths and continued to work with the people.
It’s a pretty interesting film because while it is about modern missions, it does not come across as preachy or like it’s trying to say "ain’t it glad we gave them savages another chance." It’s a story of hardship and forgiveness.
This is the same story that is now featured in the movie, "The End of the Spear."
